PowerMILL 9 - Coming Soon!
PowerMILL 9 offers a more complete solution for complex machining operations, providing greater control for experienced machinists that know exactly how they wish to machine a part. The range of enhancements to existing functionality enable both faster programming and machining, whilst the introduction of new strategies provide an even greater depth of functionality for 2D machining. Central to all these improvements is an enhanced user experience, with revised interfaces aimed at reducing human error for more accurate programming.

Graphical User Interface
Significant improvements have been made to the Graphical User Interface (GUI) in PowerMILL 9. The Block Form now provides overall dimensions, and tapered tipped tools are easier to define thanks to automatic parameter calculation. Selection by dragging the cursor enables users to select multiple entities by dragging the cursor. Selected shaded objects become brighter, whilst unselected
objects are dimmed. PowerSHAPE style blanking operations for model entities are also now available within PowerMILL 9.
- Faster and easier selection of entities
- Users can easily modify the block dimensions
- Reduces the possibility of human error

2D Cutter Compensation
PowerMILL 9 sees the introduction of a new improved method for using 2D Cutter
Compensation. Compensation is now applied and defined in the toolpath strategy
form. Both full radius and wear compensation are supported with minimum radius
protection. The following functions will also operate on toolpaths compensated by
the machine control (G41 and G42):
- Wireframe animation
- ViewMILL simulation
- Tool holder collision verification
- Machine tool collision check

3D Curve Machining
Developed primarily for press trimming dies, PowerMILL 9 has the ability to machine 3D wireframe curves to their left or right side. The 3D Curve is offset in X and Y whilst the Z remains variable. Z values are transferred from the input curve to the toolpath, whilst PowerMILL applies the toolpath radius compensation. |

Curve Creation & Editing
Users can create and edit wireframe geometric profiles from lines, arcs and curves directly inside PowerMILL. Intelligent Cursor enables users to connect between end points, intersections and mid points. Users can also snap to grid, and add fillets tangentially between lines and arcs. |
 |
2D Pocketing & Profiling
2D pocketing and profiling can now be performed in PowerMILL 9 directly from 2D wireframe curves. This requires minimal user input, enabling even faster programming than was possible in PowerMILL 8. This strategy supports boss, pocket and side features. Users can determine the number or radial cuts and axial cuts. PowerMILL can automatically compensate for the tool radius. |
 |
Face Milling
PowerMILL 9 includes a dedicated Face Milling strategy to mill block faces and reduce the number of thin cuts required. An auto angle option orientates the toolpath to the most efficient machining angle for the block. A cut direction reversal for the last pass prevents edge burring. Extended tool insert life is guaranteed due to a reduced feed rate on entry and exit.

Chamfer Milling
A dedicated Chamfer Milling strategy is available in PowerMILL 9. Users can define the top, bottom or corner curve of the chamfer, and specify the chamfer angle or side length as well as the tool position on the chamfer. Roughing and finishing strategies are available, along with optional gouge and collision checking against the model. |
 |
Rotary Axis Smoothing
PowerMILL 9 further enhances tool axis control by allowing users to smooth out the toolpath axis of a machining process. This works by smoothing the rotary axis motion on the A/B axis and the C axis of a machine tool, ensuring a constant rotary axis speed.
- Reduces machining time
- Improves the quality of all 5-axis machining strategies
- Better surface finish

Retained Expressions
Retained Expressions can be used to automatically update toolpath parameters, when other key parameters are modified. |
